New York City

Getting there: Air Canada on points

Where we stayed: The W Times Square – the good: good sized room for NYC, close to subway, lots of restos and shopping, excellent gym, the bad: wifi charge …. please!

Fun: Shopping!, Broadway if that’s your thing, lots of great nearby restos, and did I mention shopping!?

Tips: Never be afraid to ask. We arrived at the hotel around 11 am, and were able to check in to our room early.

February 25, 2013: A Big Apple BDay

Hey Everyone:

Just thought I would send you some pics of our long weekend in NYC – d2 surprised me with a trip to celebrate my birthday! Our first stop on Friday after checking in at the W Hotel Times Square was DONUT PLANT for the world’s best coconut cream-filled donut ever. Hands down. Not kidding – this donut defies a description. We also found an amazing resto called Energy Kitchen where all of the entrees are baked or grilled – everything under 500 calories. This made our treat-indulging especially easy to justify, but it was also delicious so this was our go-to lunch stop. We shopped! And shopped! and shopped! all weekend long – Soho, Greenwich Village, and Uptown. The sales were stupid, kinda like my Visa bill will be when it comes. We also had dinner at the Indonesian gem we found close to Times Square – that’s the pic called Bali Nusa. They were playing the soundtrack we heard there last time and it took us right back to our trip to Indo. Yesterday morning we visited the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center site – which was a combination of beautiful and solemn. They’ve put 2 water features on the footprints of the original towers, and the rails are inscribed with the names of the fallen – all names were difficult to read- the worst were those that had a female name along with ‘and her unborn child.’ When the construction is finished, it’s really going to be a lovely site and tribute. And no trip to NYC would be complete without my #2 favourite red velvet cupcake of all time from Dean and Deluca (it can’t compete with Lemonade’s in LA). Seriously, my mouth just started watering writing about it- that should tell you how good it was.
Now back at it – just wanted to share some pics from our weekend.
