West Coast Diaries, Part 2

Getting there: United from Seattle to San Francisco, transit in to the city

Where we stayed: Chancellor Hotel in Union Square – a great deal found on Expedia, lovely room in an older building, so hallways and rooms were smaller, got a bar fridge on request, free wifi, great location, no gym, free cookies and coffee/tea in the lobby!

November 25, 2009: West coast diaries #2

Hey everyone – greetings from San Francisco!

We arrived here in the early afternoon and it’s nice and sunny and warm here. We had a good time in Seattle yesterday – we dropped off the TC (see a lovely pic of d2 beside it here) and then set out for our day. Our first stop was actually a backtrack toward the hotel – Top Pot Donuts. These babies are divine – I’m seen admiring one here. This explains why we went back for seconds at the end of our day yesterday, and then again this morning on the way to catch our airport bus. We basically walked all over downtown – hitting up as many different shops as we could, and of course visiting Pike Market – there are a couple of pics here of it and of the tasty fishies for sale there. We also went to Pioneer Square, which is where Seattle started – lots of really nice old buildings there, went to a museum about the Gold Rush in the Yukon and how Seattle was a major stopping place for people going up north seeking their fortunes. Pretty cool history there. We also walked along the waterfront and did some more shopping (mostly the window kind). Then back to the Traveldump as we affectionately nicknamed our hotel to pack and relax. This morning we went for a nice run around the Space Needle, then got ready for our flight to San Francisco. We got downtown to our hotel around 3.30, which is near Union Square, and then out the door again to catch a bus to a shopping district on Fillmore Street. Then we wandered around, went down Lombard Street, through Chinatown, and back to Union Square for some dinner. A bit more shopping, and then preparing for tomorrow: Alcatraz in the morning and a Sharks game (vs. Chicago) tomorrow night. Looking forward to both of those activities.

Hope you are all having a good week.
