dpr was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in 2007. There is no cure for RA – it is an autoimmune disease where the body attacks its own joints, and without treatment, leads to joint destruction. dpr is lucky to have access to very good medical care, and has responded well to drug treatments – and YAY! she’s been in remission since about 2009.
As a result, dpr has become a passionate advocate for the importance of research about RA, patient education, and basic advocacy. Being an exercise freak, she has channeled her energy in to running a 30 km race annually in August to raise funds for Toronto’s SickKids Hospital – to fund research around juvenile idiopathic arthritis (basically RA in kids).
To date, dpr has raised about $40,000 through the generosity of friends, family, and corporate groups. This year’s race took place on Saturday, August 16, and you can click on this link to make a donation to support her run.
The pictures here chronicle a much relieved dpr at the end of the race over the years.
